Formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early 70s by brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson, the Gap Band largely mimicked musical pioneers George Clinton, Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire before developing their own distinctive sound in the early 80s that propelled them to the forefront of soul and funk music.  Named as an acronym for three streets in Tulsa, the Gap Band spent most of the 70s as backing musicians or as the warm-up act for visiting artists ranging from the Rolling Stones to Willie Nelson. The group recorded a couple minor albums in the mid-70s but received their first taste of national success only after signing with Mercury Records in 1979.  Working with producer Lonnie Simmons, the Gaps hit the top of the Soul charts with the Clinton-inspired humorous cut “I Don’t Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance” (more commonly known for the repeated rap “Oops Upside the Head”).  However, the group didn’t distinguish itself from the remainder of the burgeoning pack of disco-funk groups until 1980's III, an excellent disc on which the Gap Band broke out of the shadow of its influences to establish its own brand of infectiously funky, electric sound characterized by the album’s big hit, “Burn Rubber.” The group showed its songwriting development with now classic gritty ballad “Yearning For Your Love,” and the surprising piano ballad, “Nothing Comes to Sleepers.”

Raw Power” (No.44 UK ’73) is the ultimate prototype pure and raw rock n’ roll album which helped fuel the punk movement in the mid to late 1970’s. James Jewel Osterburg and the Stooges third classic album and their first one for U.S. Columbia also contained the debut of one James Williamson – thereafter a regular collaborator with Iggy. “Raw Power” as the title suggests is a ‘no-holds-barred’ amphetamine fueled classic. Contains the classics “Raw Power”, “Search And Destroy” and “Penetration” among an album full of furious power. Iggy’s intensity, bohemian lifestyle and all-round attitude is seldom given the proper credit for his role in defining what a true punk really was. Released in May 1973, “Raw Power” was the last album by these pioneers of Punk before they imploded forever. Now, new on 160 gram vinyl, it’s yet another dynamic piece of music history. You can almost smell the energy! An angry classic!

Isley Brothers – an act who not only featured the young Jimi Hendrix in their live group but have also been one of the perennial survivors of the music biz since their formation in 1957. “The Best Of The Isley Brothers” features a walloping collection from their most fertile hit-making period between 1973 to the early 80’s. We’re talkin’ such classics as Seals & Croft’s “Summer Breeze” (N.16 US), the scintillating “That Lady” (No.14 UK, No.6 US), “Highways Of My Life” (No.25 US), “For The Love Of You” (No.22 US) and the classic anthem “Harvest For The World” (No.10 UK). Besides the above gems naturally the album also features numerous doses of supercharged but melodic funk like “Hope You Feel Better Love”, “Who Loves You Better” and the blistering “The Pride”. And let’s not forget the superb “Caravan Of Love” (a No.1 UK hit when covered by the Housemartins) and the seriously hot “Between The Sheets”. A belter of a package all on beautiful double 180 gram vinyl.
