Very well done effort
combining all of the elements so many soul-oriented groups strive for but
seldom meet. Strong mix of lead vocalists, each with his own distinctive
style, backed by voices arranged differently for each song. Tight, funky
instrumentation, particularly the sax and synthesizer work. Some of the
best synthesizer yet used by Black disco groups, with the instrument
remaining in the background but filling in gaps well. Fun lyrics expressed
without the seriousness that burdens so many such albums. Disco, of
course, but also quite suitable for just plain listening. Fine production
from George Clinton. Instrumental guests include Fred Wessley, Michael and
Randy Brecker and Bernie Worrell on keyboards and synthesizer. Best cuts:
"P. Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up)," "Mothership Connection (Star Child),"
"Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)," "Night Of The
Thumpasorous Peoples."

Following on from our
previous Lee “Scratch” Perry involved albums (“Super Ape” – The
Upsetters SVLP098 and Max Romeo’s “War Ina Babylon” SVLP186) we decided
to re-issue an in-demand compilation of some of Lee “Scratch” Perry’s
greatest moments with a variety of different artists. So welcome to Lee
“Scratch” Perry’s “Reggae Greats”. This has long been unavailable on
vinyl and, as a result, has never been in more demand with the
ever-growing cult status of Lee Perry. So what’ve we got? We’re talking
the Heptones “Party Time”, Junior Murvin’s gorgeous “Police & Thieves”,
Max Romeo’s rockin’ “War Ina Babylon”, George Faith’s magnificent “To Be
A Lover” and Lee Perry’s own “Soul Fire”, the delightfully named “Roast
Fish And Cornbread” and “Dreadlocks In Moonlight”. All these as well as
other tracks from Keith Rowe, Jah Lion and Prince Jazzbo make this a
KILLER compilation especially on 180g vibin’ vinyl.

Welcome to our first release
from one of the most uncompromising bands of all time – Bobby Gillespie’s
Primal Scream with their landmark album “Screamadelica” (No.8 UK’91).
Arguably the singles from “Screamadelica” provided the soundtrack for the
Summer’s of both 1990 and 1991, such was their impact. Kicking off with
Terry Farley’s brilliant mix of “Loaded” (No.16 UK ‘90) followed by “Come
Together” (No.26 UK ’90) in the summer of 1990 and exactly one year later
two more hits appeared in the guise of “Higher Than The Sun” (No.40 UK ’91)
and “Don’t Fight It Feel It” (No.41 UK ’91). “Screamadelica” is possibly one
of the most perfectly sequenced albums ever made with every track
complimenting each other. We have full gospel choirs, layer upon layer of
percussion, brass sections and throbbing basslines throughout the album
resulting in “Screamadelica” being the nearest thing to a 90’s version of
Phil Spector’s “wall of sound”. The album is also a melting pot of Primal
Scream’s main influences from the Rolling Stones and Big Star through to the
Beach Boys with an extra added dose of rave culture! A brilliant slice of
history on DOUBLE 180 gram vinyl. |

Following on from the
success of our Soul/RnB releases we thought we’d widen our musical
parameters by delving our feet into the wonderful world of Rap and
Hip-Hop. We’re talking the arch deacons of urban rap here – welcome Public
Enemy with their mighty debut album “Yo! Bum Rush The Show”. Long
unavailable on vinyl “Yo! Bum Rush The Show” hit the rap scene like a
charge of angry buffalo! Containing such incendiary pieces of dynamite
like “You’re Gonna Get Yours”, “Sophisticated Bitch”, “Miuzi Weighs A
Ton”, “Public Enemy No.1”, “M.P.E.”, “Raise The Roof”, “Megablast” and
“Terminator X Speaks With His Hands” amongst many others. It’s fair to say
that when Public Enemy came along they well and truly kicked the Rap
movement back into gear big time with this album – an absolutely scorching
debut from a band whose time had well and truly arrived. “Yo! Bum Rush The
Show” is a regular feature in any Rap Top 10’s of all time and it’s
finally available again but this time on SUPERIOR 180 gram vinyl.
