Once again we continue our
penchant for re-issuing today's superstars early back catalogue and this
time we thought we'd backtrack with one of the biggest bands around
today, namely Texas. So let's go back to March '89 with the release of
Texas' debut album "Southside" (No.3 UK, No.88 US, '89). The hit which
kicked it all off was the magnificent "I Don't Want A Lover" (No.8 UK,
No.77 US) which highlighted Sharlene Spiteri's glorious vocals and
serves as a perfect blueprint for the band's trademark sound. Despite
being choc-full of fabulous Spiteri/McElhone songs the chart positions
of the other singles don't really reflect the quality of the songs.
We're talkin' great songs like "Thrill Has Gone" (No.60 UK, '89),
"Everyday Now" (No.44 UK, '89) and "Prayer For You" (No.73 UK, '89). One
school of thought suggests that for a number of reasons "Southside" was
a little too early to provide the kind of groundbreaking sales which
"White On Blonde" and "The Hush" would provide a few years later.
Regardless, "Southside" is a textbook example of a band in the early
stages of their development and as a result is a fascinating document of
an act who have since become gigantic in their own right. Long time
since the vinyl was available too!

Continuing on the reggae
tip, please welcome another Blood & Fire KILLER DOUBLE slab of vintage
reggae from the same stable as Johnny Clarke and Cornell Campbell.
Linval’s career was given a serious boost when he met ace producer Bunny
Lee and recorded the classic “Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks/Joyful
Locks” which also featured U Roy. Many further dancehall smashes
followed with “Jah Jah The Conquerer”, “A Big Big Girl”, “Cool Down Your
Temper” and of course “Ride On Dreadlocks” itself. Also included in this
selection are classics like the 12” version of “Can’t Stop Natty Dread
Again” and fully extended versions of killers like “12 Tribes Of
Israel”, “Everybody Needs Money” and the brilliant “Jah Jah Is I Guiding
Star”. As with virtually all Blood & Fire releases, “Ride On Dreadlocks
75-77” is presented as a superior double 180 gram package with fully
comprehensive sleeve notes from Steve Barrow. If you haven’t already got
them, we strongly suggest that get ALL the Blood & Fire releases on
vinyl – you know it makes sense!

Labeling Timbaland (Timothy
Mosely) as just a producer is shortsighted. And on the flip,
labeling his partner in rhyme, Magoo (Melvin Barcliff), a mere sidekick
would be another mistake. The two close friends are instrumental players
in bringing their Virginia home state's bevy of talent to national
prominence. Ultimately, Timbaland is the focus of this dynamic duo. But,
it is Magoo's virtual selfless ego that makes it work. In fact, Magoo
thrives on staying out of the spotlight. "I'm OK with where I am. I'm
not one of them people that need attention," explains Magoo. The duo
met in 1988 through a mutual friend, Larry, who told Chesapeake, VA native
Magoo about Virginia Beach, VA native Timbaland's exploits as a DJ.
They've been best of friends ever since. "The situation with me and
Tim is less about us being a group, it's more about us being
friends," continues Magoo. "Our main concern is that we can
leave this game still being cool with each other." But before he
could focus on Timbaland and Magoo, Tim was busy churning out hits for a
plethora of artists as a highly sought after production impresario.
Timbaland credits two songs that put him on as a hot producer, Aaliyah's
"If Your Girl Only Knew" and Ginuwine's "Pony." Tim's
discography is packed with more hits than the mob. Heavyweight superstars
like Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, to name only a
few, have all been blessed with Tim's ever-evolving bastion of
intoxicating beats. Timbaland & Magoo have collaborated and produced
some of Hip Hop's greatest works the albums Welcome to Our World, Tim's
Bio, Indecent Proposal & Under Construction II have all achieved cult
status and are proven best sellers with millions of sales worldwide.

Tupac captured the
imagination of the world over, selling millions of albums worldwide.
1995's "Me Against the World", sold two million copies, and the
double-album All Eyez on Me, sold nearly three million. On September 7,
1996, he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on a neon-lit gambling
strip in downtown Las Vegas. He died six days later as a result of those
wounds. He was twenty-five. The case is still unsolved. Afeni Shakur
founded Amaru Entertainment/Records in 1997 as a way to legitimately
release the huge catalogue of unreleased work Tupac completed before his
passing. 'Until The End of Time' was the top selling Hip-Hop album of 2001
and helped secure Tupac as the top selling Hip Hop artist ever. Tupac was
recently named by Forbes Magazine as one of the top grossing celebrities
who are no longer alive. This double album is further evidence, if any was
needed, of what a sad loss his passing was to the world of Hip-Hop.
Drawing on all of Tupac's essential material it is THE ultimate record of
his huge legacy.

For those of you out there
who are die-hard 2 Pac fans, then "Gang Related" is a must, being that it
was 2 Pac's last film appearance before his untimely death. The only thing
which kept "Gang Related" off the No.1 slot in the U.S., was the new
release of Janet Jackson's "The Velvet Rope", but hey, A No.2 album smash
for a soundtrack ain't bad! "Gang Related" was the last of the great Death
Row soundtracks and features most of the usual Death Row crew as well as a
whole host of other artists. We're talkin' 2 Pac "Life's So Hard",
"Staring Through My Rearview", "Made Niggaz" and the tremendous "Lost
Souls". Other featured acts include Daz Dillinger, Ice Cube, Mack 10, Nate
Dogg, Storm, J-Flexx, Paradise, the Jackers, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Kurupt and
numerous others from the Death Row clan. In fact, "Gang Related" is like a
'who's who' of Rap and RnB with literally tons of contributors including
cameo appearances from old school heroes Kool & The Gang and Con Funk Shun
among others. As with all Simply Vinyl/Death Row releases, "Gang Related"
is a heavyweight vinyl DOUBLE and comes with the usual superlative
packaging which includes some great stills from what was 2 Pac's last ever
film, hence historical status is guaranteed on this package! And let's not
forget that immortal line from the film itself - "The Best Place To Hide
Is Behind A Badge". Real collectors of 2 Pac and Gangsta Rap in general
NEED to own this package! Believe.

Simply Vinyl are very proud
to announce a brand new S160 release that is sure to get you as excited as
we are!! The past 10 years for Underworld have been defining for dance
music, and they never disappoint, and this is where it all started…As
their debut LP from 1992, Dubnobasswithmyheadman is quite simply one of
the all-time best "electronica" albums out there - bar none, having sold
around 200,000 copies to date! Dubnobasswithmyheadman is a varied,
emotional dance album that doesn't sacrifice authenticity for innovation.
Starting off with 'Dark and long' (the perfect curtain-raiser for the
album), Karl Hyde's vocals drift amongst multi-instrumentalist Rick
Smith's controlled guitar and Prog-House prodigy Darren Emerson's
mesmerising drum patterns, flowing into tracks such as "Mmm...Skyscraper",
and "I Love You". "Tongue" shows a gentler, warmer side to the band, as
Hyde's tones wrap themselves lovingly around subtle chords, "Cowgirl" is
just a transcendent euphoric masterpiece of hard techno, and "Dirty Epic"
is a dark and lascivious lonely ballad that meditates on the coldness of
human relations in a technological age. The lush melodies and uplifiting
ambience of "M.E." provide a worthy finale. Underworld have carefully
created from techno, house, funk and dub to produce a deep, unique sound
that will warp your floorboards! This album precedes the manic magic of
"Born Slippy," and is still regarded as possibly one of the best things
Underworld have ever done. And that is definitely reason enough, if you
still need one, to buy this album!!

It's hard to believe it but
it has been 20 years since Trax Records first appeared on the music scene
with a host of unknown acts serving up a new style of Dance Music that was
to re-shape the club scene the world over. It was Disco that started the
revolution and whilst Disco was wonderful in every way it eventually had
to step aside and make way for its altogether more simpler offspring.
House Music was Disco's love child. Un-loved at first it managed to
scratch a living bumping along the bottom of Chicago's clubland appearing
at private & illegal warehouse parties. It survived, grew and matured and
so was born the most influential musical style of the second half of the
20th century. Twenty years on it is still THE byword for "Dance Music" in
that time it has morphed and mutated but has always managed to remain
loyal to its roots. Deep House, Funky House, Jazzy House, Hip House and of
couse ACID HOUSE. Drum machimes like the 808 & 909 were the perfect tool
for this music. Wave changers and the Roland 303 provided everything
needed to bleep your way into Acid heaven. Trax Records was THE Chicago
House label and Acid Trax is THE definative record of the Acid era. 16 of
the finest Acid Anthems possible on this brilliantly mastered double LP

Think of a classic "House"
record and nine times out of ten you'll think of a Trax Record, although you
may not realise it. 'Move Your Body'-'Baby Wants To Ride'-'Washing Machine'
& 'Can U Feel It' are all Trax releases. 'House Nation'-'Acid Trax'-'Your
Love'-'We Are Phuture' & 'U Used To Hold Me'-Yup, these too. What's more
they introduced the world to producers who have become immortalised as some
of House Music's greatest ever innovators. These include Larry Heard,
Marshall Jefferson and Frankie Knuckles. Trax also provided an outlet for
many more of Chicago's House Music artists, such as Armando, Liddell
Townsend, Robert Owens, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Mr Lee, Adonis, Fast
Eddie, Ralphie Rosario, DJ Rush, Steve Poindexter & Terry Baldwin....the
list just goes on and on...And they did all this and acheived so much by
releasing bad-looking records that sounded like they'd been pressed on
sandpaper. Well fortunately that's a thing of the past. This 160g double LP
pressing is the absolute dogs doo dahs and the tracklisting speaks for
itself...A veritable who's who of Chicago House Music...Need we say more??

Welcome to our first vinyl release from the critically popular exponent
of beat culture and the torch carrier of such legends as Jack Kerouac
and Charles Bukowski, the unique Tom Waits. "Swordfishtrombones" (No.62
UK, No.167 US '83) was the most not only the most critically successful
Tom Waits album yet but also the album which finally brought him
commercial success in the UK. The album itself was quite a radical
departure for Tom who opted for a much more percussive sound which was
based around marimbas, wood blocks and many changing rhythm patterns
which together with his unique vocal style and characteristic lyrics
combined to produce a classic. This was his debut album for Island
Records and together with his next two albums - "Rain Dogs" and "Frank's
Wild Years" formed a critically successful trilogy of great albums which
pretty much have marked the zenith of Tom's career to date.

Well don’t say we don’t do
things in style. Not only have we released the No.1 Rap album of all time
– “It Takes A Nation Of Millions…” (SVLP214) but now we have the No.2 Rap
album of all time as voted by the readers of Hip-Hop Connection. Welcome
to the magnificent Wu-Tang Clan and the ground-breaking “Enter The Wu-Tang
(36 Chambers)”. “Enter The Wu-Tang” emerged as a breath of fresh air for
the East Coast rap scene after the West Coast domination of the previous
few years. The assembled multitude of Method Man, Raekwon, GZA, Ol’ Dirty
Bastard, Ghostface Killah and the others literally kicked ass with one of
Rap’s strongest albums ever. Featuring such killers as “Bring Da Ruckus”,
“Shame On A Nigga” “Protect Ya Neck”, “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta
F’Wit”, “Method Man” and “Protect Ya Neck” amongst others, “Enter The
Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” is one of the real classics of the last 10 years
along with the Public Enemy albums and others from KRS 1, Nas and De La
Soul (watch this space). If you don’t have “Enter The Wu-Tang (36
Chambers)” on 180 gram vinyl you should put that right immediately!
